Breeding objectives

The foundation for internationally successful marketing is provided by a range of varieties that are genetically adjusted to the broad requirements of countries and regions. As far as the practical development work of the company is concerned, this means covering the widest possible range of breeding objectives.
The requirements that our customers place on grain and sugar beet varieties have increased steadily in recent years. In particular, resistance breeding against diseases and pests has assumed an ever greater significance within classical breeding objectives over the past 15 years. Today, we are working on developing multiple resistances against leaf, ear and root diseases, whilst simultaneously boosting yield and improving quality.
We have already incorporated features into our breeding programmes to enhance  plants  for biomass production and energy generation. We also genetically track tolerances against abiotic stress factors, such as water or nutrient deficiency, and examine these in special horticultural tests.
